Jim Putman honored at PDK Meeting on September 7, 2006

University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) PDK Chapter 15, honored Dr. Jim Putman, past president of the chapter, for his dedication and service to the organization.  Jim graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1965 with a degree in Social Studies and Speech.  He taught for two years in Torrington, Wyoming, and twelve years at Lincoln Northeast High School in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He received his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from UNL in 1973 and was a secondary principal at St. Paul High School for six years.

He received his Educational Specialist Degree from UNL with a Superintendent Endorsement in 1983.  He was a superintendent at Bridgeport, Nebraska, Elmwood-Murdock, Nebraska, and Wakefield, Nebraska.  He began working as a Management Consultant in Accreditation and School Improvement for the Nebraska Department of Education in 1998, and became the Director of Teacher Certification in 2005 where he remains today.

Jim became a PDK member in 1970 and served as president of the organization from 2002 to 2006.  He also served in other capacities including the Membership Co-Chair.  Jim’s most interesting remembrance from his years with PDK was:
At the time I was initiated, the chapter was really active.  The “movers and shakers” of the Nebraska education community were all in the organization.  I regret to note that PDK was an exclusive male fraternity at the time.  Fortunately, women soon were accepted for membership.  I affiliated with the UN-K chapter and the Northeast Nebraska Chapter when I was working in other areas of the state.
